PRADA… MARFA?

This week my mum was in Marfa, Texas.

A few fun facts about this little town:

- It’s known for its modern art

- It was the filming location for Giant starring Liz Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean

- Tourists go here to see the Marfa Lights which some believe to be a “paranormal phenomena” (hate to be a killjoy, but research suggests otherwise)

- And they have a PRADA store…

Okay, not really.

It’s a piece of art.

PRADA Marfa is actually a permanent sculpture installation that was put up by the artists Elmgreen and Dragset back in 2005. It’s pretty cool because it’s totally random- a PRADA in the middle of the desert, off a dusty highway.  The sculpture was originally stocked with real merchandise, but after being vandalized and robbed three days after completion (cause no one saw that one coming), it now holds bottomless bags with alarms inside.

The above photos are from my mum’s trip, but here are couple more from the internet…
